This is 2008. Video games are becoming a medium of American culture. It doesn't matter if you're a nerd, a jock, a soccer mom or a 5-year-old, there is a game for everyone. The Nintendo Wii has sold over 15 MILLION units. Grand Theft Auto IV sold almost 7 million copies across the world-and it wasn't even released in Japan! Guitar Hero and Rock Band have inspired unforgettable moments in social gaming. Nintendo has captured a new audience with its casual gaming. And yet, the politicians STILL whine.
Grand Theft Auto and Halo are not for children. We know that. They were rated Mature by members of the ESRB. If a child is seen as mature by his (or her) parents, then there is no problem with letting a child play DOOM, Call of Duty, or Bioshock. The media cannot continue to blame a game's developers for its effects on people. The power is within the individual.
Now is the time for everyone to mature. It's obvious that games aren't for nerds anymore. I can guarentee that anyone can enjoy a game. It's time for the haters to step up and join this medium-or at the very least, support it.
